Mammograms Can Save Lives
Oct 2, 2009 | Author: Maryann SwierczekThese special X-rays find breast cancer early, when it can be cured.
Have you had your mammogram lately? If not, now is a great time to do it. October 16 is National Mammography Day. On this day, and throughout October, women can get a free or lowcost mammogram.
A mammogram can save your life. It’s a special kind of X-ray for the breasts. Mammograms can show tumors (small growths) that may be cancer long before you can feel them. Treating tumors when they are still small makes curing cancer easier. A baseline mammogram is recommended for women between 35 and 40 years of age, and yearly mammograms beginning at age 40. They are also recommended for younger women who have symptoms of breast cancer or who are at high risk.
Ask your doctor if you need a mammogram. Mammograms are covered under your Medicaid benefits.
